Letter to Calin Rovinescu President & CEO Air Canada
President & CEO
7373 Cote Vertu Ouest
Dear Mr. Rovinescu,
The Long Island Association, which is the leading business organization of the region, enthusiastically supports the prospect of Air Canada establishing an Islip to Toronto route at Long Island MacArthur Airport (LIMA).
LIMA is a convenient, stress-free alternative to the crowded New York City airports. With nearly three million people and a diverse, dynamic workforce and business climate, Nassau and Suffolk Counties are a big and attractive market that would be a significant growth area for your airline. Moreover, Long Island's population is trending and growing eastward, increasing the number of travelers that would fly from LIMA.
Islip-Toronto service would make business sense for Air Canada. The airline would realize greater efficiencies in takeoff and departure timing because the less-congested Long Island airspace would cut delays and wasted fuel. Moreover, the arrival of Air Canada at LIMA would provide access and more expedient travel to a major city for businesses and families while creating jobs and spurring economic development. Research by LIMA shows 58 percent of international travelers in the airport's immediate catchment area of 1.7 million people are flying to Canada. Clearly, Toronto is a sought after destination for Long Islanders and a potential connection point for further travel to Asia or Europe without the hassles and congestion of other airports.
I have no doubt that your senior executives who recently toured the facility witnessed first hand that, as LIMA's slogan says: "They make flying a breeze." With its infrastructure, capacity, and commitment, LIMA would be a tremendous asset to Air Canada. As you consider launching the airline's 60th United States to Canada route, the Long Island market offers extraordinary potential to boost both your business and the local economy. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to call me at (631) 493-3001. Thank you.
