Letter to Supervisor Croci regarding air traffic facility at MacArthur
Dear Supervisor Croci:
As the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration evaluate the consolidation, replacement and modernization of the control facilities of New York ARTCC in Westbury and New York TRACON in Ronkonkoma, it is critical that the FAA's controller infrastructure remain on Long Island. The most sensible location for this facility is at Long Island MacArthur Airport, which offers clear advantages and synergies.
The Long Island Association supports your efforts as well as those of Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko to redevelop the Ronkonkoma Hub and locating this new facility at the airport will only enhance that transformative project. Moreover, this site will increase efficiencies and lower the operational costs for the FAA in what is the most demanding airspace in the country. In addition, it will retain hundreds of existing jobs and create hundreds of new jobs for our region.
Long Island MacArthur Airport is the perfect home for a new integrated Air Traffic Control system for New York's airports. The LIA looks forward to working with you, Supervisor Lesko and other officials to ensure that the new, consolidated facility is constructed there. Thank you for your leadership on these efforts.
