Statement from LIA Chief Economist on Jobs and Unemployment Rate

"The unemployment rate fell in April to 6.3 percent, the lowest since September of 2008.  And 288,000 new jobs were added, far exceeding expectations and average monthly gains over the past year.  These reports provide solid evidence that the economy is on the rebound following a sluggish first quarter.  It is now becoming apparent that slow first quarter growth was largely weather- related and did not reflect any fundamental change in the economy," said Dr. John Rizzo, LIA Chief Economist.
