Statement from LIA Chief Economist on Durable Goods Orders and Jobless Claims
By: Dr. John Rizzo
"Durable goods orders increased at a strong pace of 2.6% in March. This was the largest gain in four months, and was well in excess of expectations. This news provides further evidence that the economic lull in the winter reflected harsh weather conditions rather than economic fundamentals. And although jobless claims ticked upward, they remained at a level consistent with continued expansion in the labor market," said John Rizzo, LIA Chief Economist.
