Transportation
Long Island’s transportation resources rival those for any region in the nation.
It’s arterial highway network moves a substantial volume of traffic without the time-consuming delays that have become characteristic of so many regions, in part due to the INFORM system, which provides updated traffic flow information to motorists .
Long Island’s rail system, operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a State authority, has a creditable record of on-time performance and customer service.
The region has one major regional airport and several general aviation facilities, as well as easy access to John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia International Airport, both in neighboring Queens.
And Long Island also has reliable ferry service across Long Island Sound to Connecticut, Block Island, and Rhode Island.
