Special Initiatives

The LIA has introduced programs to support business leaders and industry sectors of our economy.

This collaboration seeks to foster commercialization of research and support early stage startup companies. It launched two successful seed funds with New York State support:

  • Accelerate Long Island received a grant from the first round of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council and matching funds from the Long Island Emerging Technology Fund and offered a combination of grants/investment in ten companies, which has resulted in $34 million follow-on funding and 32 full-time jobs and counting.
  • The Accelerate NY Seed Fund supported over 20 science and technology-based early stage ventures in partnership with Empire State Development and venture capital firms and has completed its investments. The companies are located on Long Island, in New York City, and in the Hudson Valley region.
